In December 2009, the Ministry of Education approved the construction of the Key Laboratory of Ministry of Education for Coal Mine Gas and Fire Prevention by China University of Mining and Technology. The Coal Mine Gas and Fire Prevention and Control Laboratory is based on the National Coal Industry Key Laboratory of “Mineral Safety Engineering” approved by the former Ministry of Coal Industry in 1998, and relies on the National Key Discipline of the First Class of Safety Science and Engineering of China University of Mining and Technology. The construction of the Safety Technology and Engineering and Safety Management Engineering doctoral disciplines closely focuses on the key basic scientific issues in the field of coal mine gas and fire prevention, to curb the mine's major disasters and meet the promotion of safe, efficient and sustainable development of the coal industry. The country's major needs are the main research objectives, involving mining safety, fluid mechanics and fluid mechanics, engineering thermophysics, computer science and technology, mine automatic control and monitoring, safety management and other disciplines, with distinctive characteristics of mining safety engineering interdisciplinary.


The laboratory is equipped with coal mine gas disaster prevention research laboratory, coal mine fire prevention research laboratory, coal mine ventilation and dust prevention research room, coal mine safety monitoring and safety management research room. The laboratory has excellent scientific research conditions. At present, the laboratory area is 3,325 square meters. It has more than 130 sets of advanced instruments and equipment, including 74 sets of large-scale precision instruments and equipment of more than 100,000 yuan. The original value is more than 2,200. Ten thousand yuan. The laboratory is closely equipped with advanced testing equipment and characteristic experimental research system around the basic application research of coal mine gas and fire prevention. It has advanced level of similar laboratories at home and abroad in terms of equipment, working environment and organization management.


The laboratory has been associated with the University of Kentucky, Michigan Technological University, the University of Maryland, the University of Alberta, the University of Queensland, the University of New South Wales, the Moscow University of Mining and Technology, the Polish University of Technology, the University of Nottingham, Ulster University, and the German Wave. The Institute of Technology, Dortmund University, Karlsruhe University, the Australian Federal Academy of Sciences and other institutions of higher learning and research institutions have established scientific research, academic exchanges and personnel training mechanisms.
